Dear Son

Dear son,
We hope that this letter will find you are well
Though you’ve passed through the doors to a living hell.
Keep our words close and remember that this
Is your father’s fond smile and my loving kiss.
Are you wearing the gloves that Pa sent you last?
They’ll keep your hands warm though winter’s now passed.
And the scarf that I sent you. Are you wearing that, too?
The one that I knitted especially for you?
When you slip the gloves on they’ll hold your hands tight
In your father’s strong grasp through the long fearful night.
And the scarf, it enfolds you in our loving embrace,
It’s all we can do, son, ‘til we touch your face,
And hold you once more, by God’s endless grace.

Your loving Ma and Pa.
