The Zzzebra

He’s a little bit different from his stripey cousins,
For one, he loves to sleep all day,
And he’s many more stripes, dozens and dozens.
He may have more – it’s hard to say.

There’ve been many attempts to count them all –
You start at the tail up to his head –
Though you might start early it’s now nightfall
And you really should be in bed.

But this is what happens when you are asleep –
The zzzzebra will start at his head,
Begin counting his stripes and a tally will keep,
For counting is like being fed.

When you are in bed in the deepest slumber
The zzzzebra wanders far and wide.
In the darkness he swallows each little number
As he counts the stripes along his hide.
