Little Men

Little man upon my knee,
The little man on my TV,
Take one small step,
Yours for me,
His for humanity.

The silver bauble over my head
Is the silver bauble over your bed,
Firmly focused in the eye,
Stark against a darkened sky,
So blurred when closely seen
Upon my television screen.

See the dance of the astronaut
Upon that huge and airless nought,
He dances there for you and me,
A tango for technology.

Little man enjoy your sleep
And little man enjoy your leap
From the televisual grey
Of that ancient yesterday,
From that ghostly silver crescent
To our multi-channel present.

Now you are grown and he is grey
And never will you step that way
My little men.
